Is Your Bird Vaccinated Against Polyomavirus?

Ther have been times when I have been asked why I require proof of vaccination for Polyoma before I will board a bird.  I believe the following information will help you understand my reasons -

Avian polyomavirus has caused devastating disease in companion birds and heartbreak for their owners. This virus can cause severe depression and sudden death, and though it targets young birds, mature birds are susceptible as well.
Unfortunately, most bird owners are not aware of this deadly disease and do not vaccinate their birds.

Even if your bird does not come into contact with other birds they are still at risk.  Are you aware that the polyomavirus can be spread on clothing, hair, skin, as well as feather dust?   When you visit the local bird / pet store or a friend that just bought a new pair of breeder birds, you could pick up this disease and bring it back home to your birds.

Fortunately, most avian veterinarians maintain supplies of the vaccine. Call and setup your appointment today. After the initial vaccination your birds will need an annual booster.  And I will gladly board your bird(s).
